Description

The Ferrari 365 GT4 BB marked a radical shift for the prancing horse, becoming the first mid-engined 12-cylinder Ferrari road car, a bold move that forever changed the brand’s performance lineage. Unveiled at the 1971 Turin Motor Show and launched in 1973, the BB (short for Berlinetta Boxer) was Maranello’s answer to the Lamborghini Miura and the emerging breed of mid-engined exotics.

Gone was the traditional front-engine GT layout. Instead, the 365 GT4 BB featured a 4.4-litre flat-12 engine mounted longitudinally behind the driver. Though dubbed a “boxer,” it was technically a 180-degree V12, a configuration that allowed for a lower centre of gravity, aiding both handling and aerodynamics. It produced around 380hp, giving the BB a top speed of 280 km/h.

With only 387 units built, the 365 GT4 BB is one of the rarest and most collectible Ferraris from the era. It paved the way for the more refined 512 BB and later the Testarossa, but purists often point to the original 365 GT4 BB as the purest expression of the boxer-powered dream. Raw, rare, and utterly revolutionary.

The example we have on offer has been fully restored by agents and is finished in Blu Metallic over black leather interior with blue carpets, making for a stunning spec with only 51100km. It comes with the complete factory tool kit, air pump, with partial history file and invoices. This is a truly exceptional example, being the only one on the market in South Africa, and it needs to be viewed to understand the level that it presents in
