Description
Replacing the famed 300SL and 190Sl, the Mercedes Benz W113 had tough shoes to fill. The W113 “Pagoda” did this with aplomb as it was introduced at the 1963 Geneva Motor Show and saw production from 1963 through to 1971 with staggering sales. The lead designers were Paul Bracq and Bela Barenyi who also designed the concave roof, giving the W113 its nickname “Pagoda”.
The Pagoda was produced with various engine guises but all received the inline-six cylinder motor with multi-port fuel injection. Along with the many aluminium body aspects, the short and wide chassis coupled with excellent suspension, break & steering gave the Pagoda great handling, especially for a car of that time. Even now, the Pagoda, when put through its paces, is an absolute joy to drive.
The top of the range 280SL Pagoda saw introduction in December 1967 and was continued until the end of the Pagoda life cycle in February 1971. It produced a very healthy 168 bhp and added to the alure of the Pagoda as it now had that little “edge” to complete the faultless lines and exquisite drive. It was the final culmination of all the Pagodas before it.
The excellent example we offer here is finished in black over cream leather which, with its contrast, allow all the features of the Pagoda to stand out. This 280SL Pagoda has been under meticulous custodianship for the last 11 years making it arguably the best driving Pagoda we have experienced. The car drives absolutely superbly and has the optional hard top available. This 280SL Pagoda here is ready to be driven, enjoyed and started in new chapter and long future.
Interesting trade-in’s will be considered.
