The Ferrari 308 GTB Vetroresina stands as a unique and significant chapter in Maranello’s storied history, marking the transition from the classic 246 Dino to a new era of V8-powered Ferraris. Introduced at the 1975 Paris Motor Show, the 308 GTB was the first production Ferrari to feature a fibreglass body, a feature that would only last for a short production window, making these early examples especially coveted by collectors today.

Designed by Pininfarina and built by Scaglietti, the 308 GTB’s sleek lines drew heavy inspiration from the Dino lineage, with curvaceous bodywork and a purposeful stance. The use of fibreglass, or vetroresina in Italian, was a bold and innovative move for Ferrari. At the time, it offered significant advantages in terms of weight savings and corrosion resistance. The fibreglass body helped keep the 308’s dry weight down to just over 1,050 kg, enhancing the car’s agility and performance.

Power came from a transversely-mounted 2.9-litre V8 engine with four Weber carburettors, producing around 255hp. Coupled with a 5-speed manual gearbox, the 308 GTB offered a thrilling driving experience, complete with Ferrari’s signature gated shifter and a soundtrack to match.

Production of the fibreglass 308 GTB lasted only until mid-1977, after which Ferrari switched to steel bodywork. Just over 800 Vetroresina examples were built, making them rare and sought-after today, especially given their place as the only fibreglass-bodied production Ferrari.

The example presents well, being finished in red over beige leather interior with only 35580km showing on the clock.  While later steel-bodied 308s gained weight and were eventually offered with fuel injection and catalytic converters, the early fibreglass cars retained a raw, lightweight feel that many purists believe delivers the purest 308 driving experience
